‘Notte della Tammorra’: a celebration of Popular Culture in Naples

The XXII edition of the ‘Notte della Tammorra’ lit up Piazza Mercato with its vibrant energy and celebration of Southern Italy’s popular culture. The event, promoted by the City of Naples and organised by the ‘Santa Chiara Orchestra’ Association under the artistic direction of Carlo Faiello, offered two unforgettable evenings of music, dance and tradition. The public was able to enjoy a variety of performances that ranged from Apulian pizziches to Calabrian tarantellas, via Sicilian serenades and Neapolitan classics.

Among the various artists who took part in the event, the evening of 6 September saw the participation of Antonio Onorato, who performed his very personal version of the famous ‘Tammurriata nera’ in homage to maestro Roberto De Simone and the late ‘king of the tammorra’, Marcello Colasurdo.

The great success with the public once again confirmed the ‘Notte della Tammorra’ as one of the main events promoting the dissemination of popular culture: a not-to-be-missed opportunity for anyone who loves the music and traditions of Naples and Southern Italy, of which Onorato is one of the main ambassadors in the world.
